Nature & Vaastushastra
Indian Darshanshastra describes the life span of the nature in terms of four eons - Krita, Satya, Dwapar, and Kali. The nature has tendency towards progressive disintegration.Darshanshastra principles state that the nature attains plurality of destructive properties with every new eon, and moves towards self dissolution. The nature embodying trinity of virtues - sattva, rajas, and tamas - is destroyed through over-dose of tamas. All religions accept and propagate the fact that the existence of life is a process of creation, preservation, and destruction. The Bhagwad Puranas give many instances detailing this process. This principle of religious origin, though outwardly similar to Darwin's theory of evolution, differs from it on fundamental issues. The Indian mythological ages - Krita, Satya, Dwapar, and Kali - are in fact are accounts of rise and fall of virtuous qualities through various periods of history of life. Considering these aspects, the validity of Vaastushastra rules can easily be traced to the laws of nature itself.
The wealth, the truth, the religious adherence, the cruelty, the abnormalities, the poverty, the famine - all these factors can be easily be correlated with the Vaastushastra rules as applied to the directional aspects evident in various era. The two guiding principles; (1) relative heaviness of the South direction, and (2) location of the water in the North can explain the modalities of these relationships.
In Vaastushastra, the North and the East directions are associated with divine qualities. The North and the East are the source directions for the Jaivik geomagnetic energy and the Pranik solar energy respectively. The smooth and free flow of these natural energy currents is traced to the qualities of the Akash Tatva, the medium for event manifestation. Any interruptions or obstacles in the natural flow of these energy sources portend disintegration and destruction. Interestingly, even in the Yogashastra, all the auspicious and virtuous qualities of the Chandra Nadi are associated with the Northeast zone only.
As per the principles stated in the Puranas, we in fact can establish a link between the degeneration process in an era and the deficiencies or flaws in the qualitative aspects of the North and the East directions.
We present here different zone projections of the earth reflecting the influencing factors in each of the four eons.
In the eon 'Krita', the earth was on heavier side in the South with most of the landmass located in the South zone. Similarly, almost the entire North zone was under water. Over a period of time the Southern landmass started shifting towards the North. The poles of the earth shift by I minute of an arc every 100 years. As per the present scientific predictions, the North and the South poles are likely to interchange their positions in about a million years.
The scientifically analyzed movement of the continents towards the North and flooding of the Southern landmass can be interpreted in terms of the violent end prophesied for the 'Kali Yuga'.
Vaastushastra considers the combination of location of water in the South and massive North zone as pointer towards total destruction, while Yogashastra says that cruel and violent acts can result from the influence of the Surya Nadi which circulates within the confines of the South zone. The 'Kali Yuga' will come to an end after the major landmass of the earth has accumulated in the North zone. At the same time, the interchange of the North and South poles will herald beginning of a new era.
Past and Future 50 Years for India as per Vaastushastra
The principles of Vaastu-Jyotisha permit analysis of planetary influence on a Vaastu in terms of the natural horoscope. Though Vaastushastra rules are applicable to the Vaastu at all times, correlating the specific directions and planets allows interpretation in terms of definite periods of time and the events.
The cyclic nature of worldly processes finds relevance in correlating sequence of events in the past and deficiencies or 'doshas' in the Vaastu associated with a given event. A pattern can then be established pinpointing event series as related to the Vaastu-doshas.
The above idea can further be elaborated by considering a specific example in which the year 1947 has been considered as the birth year of India, In the Indian tradition a period of 12 years or 'Tapa' has its own importance. Since duration of 12 years is sufficiently long for predicting national fortunes, we can safely consider a period of 100 years for analysing cyclic nature of events.

The picture clarifies as we consider the major events during 1947 - 1997, the 50 years period of interest,'and analyse the significance of these events in terms of directional deficiencies and planetary influence. This type of Vaastu-Jyotisha analysis is an entirely new field and still under development. Prescribing a set of rules for this methodology will be possible only after event versus Vaastu-dosha analysis is carried out and counter-checked by widening the sample base to include different nations and cultures.
The time duration considered in astrology for world events is extremely wide - sometimes missing the events by 20 - 25 years. During this period, changes are possible in a nation's geography. As such, experts in this field play extra safe while handling this discipline.
Applying the Vaastu-Jyotisha guidelines, we can say that the years 1947 to 1959, for India, were influenced by the Sun, the lord of the East direction. The Eastern zone of India has a natural slope with major rivers like the Brahmaputra flowing through and merging with the ocean waters on the East coast. Vaastushastra considers this to be a fortunate event. During this period India gave the world a leader like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who provided a foothold for the Indian polity in world affairs by promoting the ideas of Panchsheel and non-alignment. Since the Eastern direction was full of fortuitous parameters, this Sun-period proved productive for India.
1960 - to 1972 can be considered to be a period of mixed fortunes for India. This period was predominantly influenced by Ketu ruling over the Northeast zone. The Northeast landmass of India is solid and massive with natural slopes running towards the Southwest. But it is also a fact that the Northeast is covered by ice and snow, giving the zone a character of relatively reduced density and weight - a benevolent fact from the Vaastushastra point of view. Ketu initiates making and breaking, providing mixed fruits for any actions. During this period, India lost Tibet to China. India under the premiership of the late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri did win a war against Pakistan, but lost tactical advantage. These years saw the rise of the late Smt Indira Gandhi whose leadership provided India with mixed fortunes.
For the years 1973 - 1985 India's fortunes were controlled by the North direction ruled by the planet Jupiter. There is rise towards the North compared to the Southern regions of India - a major flaw as per Vaastushastra. The massive north landmass is the very reason why the territory of Kashmir lying at the North of India was never fully integrated into mainstream India. From 1947 itself, Kashmir has been provided with special constitutional status, and has maintained separate identity due to militancy and religious fundamentalism.
If we divide the 12 years 1973 - 1985 into 3 separate periods of 4 years each, we observe an increase in unfortunate and violent incidents with each period. Up to 1973, an active Ketu with NorthEast influence characterised by break and make situations saw India win the Bangladesh war and play a major role in establishing Bangladesh as a separate nation. But after 1973, there have been a series of calamitous incidents like the proclamation of emergency in 1975, manslaughter in some parts of India during 1978 - 1982, and the violent death of smt.t Indira Gandhi in 1984. The influence of North ruling Jupiter was wasted during 1973 - 1985 due to Vaastushastra proscribed conditions of heavy North and slope towards the South.
The years 1985 - 2001 seems to be ' a period of political uncertainty, reflecting the frivolous character of the Northwest direction ruled by the Moon. The great element wind is identified with the direction Northwest. In the Indian context, the vacillating characteristic of the element wind can be seen in several incidents- short-lived Rajiv Gandhi rule, the violent assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, the stable but controversial rule of Narasimha Rao, frequent mid-term elections, etc... The Northwest province of India
slopes slightly towards the Central Indian plateau and has a slight ‘cut' in Vaastushastra terms. All this has resulted in disastrous results for the nation-state
and its political stability. The period 2002 - 2014 will have a strong West direction characteristic determined by the powerful planet Saturn. Saturn is considered to be a hard taskmaster and a stubborn judge. A disturbed Saturn can bring to knees all the high-flying puerile characters. The Western zone of India is mainly a. coastal region sloping towards the South. The period will be a tough one for India with major political and economic scandals receiving widespread attention. The planet Saturn is also an indicator of abundance of petroleum products. In these 12 years, India will face a shortage of petroleum products. The nation will undergo traumatic experience through a series of earthquakes and volcanoes, and man-made calamities like tilting and arson. The phasing out of Saturn will bring about major disasters for India.
The years 2014 - 2026 will be under the influence of Rahu governing the Southwest direction. Since coastal waters constitute the South-West zone of India, Rahu is expected to provide gains and losses similar to those provided by Saturn, but with in a accentuated manner ' . Rahu is an indicator of coups with bloodbath. Rahu is also associated with lower grade social strata. Violence and arson are expected to be the order of the day. Large population may be wiped out through air pollution and toxic gases.
Thereafter, Mars having control over the South direction will rule the next 12 years. This period is indicative of solid military leadership and iron hand discipline. If the situation so warrants, a dictator will emerge from this scene to bring to an end the entire chaotic political situation by the year 2042. Subsequent years under the influence of a prosperity endowing Venus and a political superiority provider Sun will see India emerge as leader of the nations in world affairs
